Sync license
Permission to put music to picture. Two copyrights, two licenses.
A synchronization license covers the composition in timed relation to picture. You also need a master-use license for the recording. If you do not own both, you cannot sign both. Supervisors need one-stop (you control both) or a clear map of who does. Fees vary from almost nothing (student film, some indie) to life-changing (ads, trailers). Most independent syncs are modest and worth it for the audience. Never assign publishing to get a placement.
