Work for hire
You got paid; you may not own it. Read the sentence.
Work-for-hire language says the hiring party owns the copyright from the start. Common in sessions, some production deals, advertising. If you are the artist, do not sign WFH on your own songs. If you hire a producer or a session player, say clearly what you are buying (a performance? a beat? publishing?) and put it in a one-page agreement. Handshake culture is how catalogs get frozen.
