Mechanical royalty

A mechanical is owed to the publisher/songwriter when the composition is reproduced. In the US, interactive streaming mechanicals now largely flow through The MLC under a blanket license. Physical still has its own path. If you cover a song, you need a mechanical license (Harry Fox / Songfile, or the statutory process). If you write songs, register them so the mechanicals can find you.
